They had been working at the factory, which was set up by a Chinese national three years ago, since May. The factory, where altogether 140 workers, including 24 Chinese nationals, are employed, has been exporting dry and processed meat to foreign countries.
More than 150 buffaloes are slaughtered in the factory to manufacture foods. "We have asked them to stop work straight away," said Sunsari´s Chief District Officer (CDO) Laxman Kumar Thapa. "They cannot work without obtaining work visas. But, we did not ask them to leave Nepal as they possess tourist visas." According to Thapa, their documents have also been seized.
