NDCLEU made the smugglers public on Monday at a press conference and said that the raw hashish was packed in 22 big bundles. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Nawa Raj Silwal said three smugglers were nabbed while they were trying to smuggle the drugs to China via Makawanpur District.[break]
The contraband was seized from smugglers who were in the most wanted list of police since the last six years. SSP Silwal said, “Among three to four chains of smugglers who supply the contraband to China and India, this was the most important chain and we are able to smash it after a long effort.” He also said that the police have identified the receiver of seized 1,080 kg Hashish in China.
He said that China is identified as new destiny for hashish grown in Nepal as demand has been increasing sharply because of good quality and low price compared to international market. Police said that smugglers are lured by 2000 percent income if successful. The international price for the raw hashish is $15,000 per kg.
In last few months smuggling of contraband drugs have been increasing as per the increase in the demands in China. Smugglers of contraband drugs were attracted by handsome income despite security risks according to the police.
According to the police, those detained were Dill Bahadur Magar of Makawanpur, Umesh Chaudhary and Rajnandan Shah of Mahottari. “Rajnandan is the main leader of this group who had assisted Laxmi Chaudhary, main leader of the earlier haul, and the father of Umesh.
The police said it was the second biggest seizure made by the NDCLEU this year. On June 9th police arrested three people for their involvement in smuggling of 2,640 kg of raw hashish.
