Police seize 105 kg hashish from bus

KATHMANDU, March 11: Police on Sunday morning arrested three persons on the charge of smuggling 105 kg of hashish using a wedding party bus.  Police officials from the District Police Office (DPO), Dhading found the hashish hidden under the seats of the bus (Na 5 Kha 2812) en route to Birgunj from Kathmandu, at Gajuri, at around 2 am.

KATHMANDU, March 11: Police on Sunday morning arrested three persons on the charge of smuggling 105 kg of hashish using a wedding party bus.  Police officials from the District Police Office (DPO), Dhading found the hashish hidden under the seats of the bus (Na 5 Kha 2812) en route to Birgunj from Kathmandu, at Gajuri, at around 2 am.


The arrested are bus driver Lal Bahadur Tamang, 45, of Birgunj sub-Metropolitan City, Anil Chaudhary, 35, of Karmeyamai Rural Municipality-7 and Sriram Saha Kanu of Bindabasini Rural Municipality-3.

According to the DPO chief, SP Raj Kumar Baidawar, this was the first time they found smugglers using bus to traffic drugs. “Previously, smugglers would use trucks.”


He claimed that the police officials grew suspicious at the sight of an empty wedding bus heading for Kathmandu at 7 pm on Saturday. After some time the bus was seen reverting toward Birgunj. They followed the bus and finally were able to make the arrests.


SP Baidawar said that they are investigating whether Sunday’s seizure has any connection with last month’s seizure of 360 kg hashish. 


“In both the cases, the drug was bring smuggled to Birgunj,” he said, “We have found out that Birgunj as become the hub for the distribution of Nepali hashish to India.”
