Although SEJON has 204 working business and economic journalists, only 171 had cast their vote.
Gokarna Awasti of Kantipur daily was unanimously elected vice-president, while Bigyan Adhikary of Nagarik daily, a sister publication of Republica, was elected to the post of general secretary.
Shiva Duwadi of Rajdhani and Lok Bahadur Chapagain of Karobar daily too had vied for the post. Suresh Neupane of Nepal weekly and Ramesh Dhakal of Image Channel were elected as secretary and treasurer respectively.
The 12th annual general meeting of SEJON held on the day also elected Sudarshan Sapkota (Nagarik), Yogesh Khatiwada (Kantipur), Pushpa Raj Acharya (Karobar), Prabhat Bhattarai (Himal) and Achyut Paudel (Himalayan Television) as executive members. SEJON elects new executive committee every two years.
Addressing the AGM earlier in the day, Finance Secretary Krishna Hari Baskota stressed the need for responsible journalism.

He also highlighted present macro-economic outlook of the country and requested the private sector to make fresh investments in crucial sectors of economy.
