Chandragiri declared child labour-free local level

The announcement was made by Chief Minister of Bagmati Province Indra Bahadur Baniya, Social Development Minister Kanchan Chandra Bade and Mayor of Chandragiri Municipality Ghanshyam Giri.

KATHMANDU, Dec 29: The Chandragiri Municipality in Kathmandu district was declared child labour-free local level, setting a campaign and realizing the goal in this fiscal year. 



The announcement was made by Chief Minister of Bagmati Province Indra Bahadur Baniya, Social Development Minister Kanchan Chandra Bade and Mayor of Chandragiri Municipality Ghanshyam Giri. 


Earlier, the wards of the municipality were declared free of child labour on different dates.

During the programme organized here today, Mayor Giri promised to give high priority to end the exploitation of children and intervention programmes would be carried out for its sustainability after the declaration. 


The municipality has also enacted different procedures, Acts and action plans to materialize its target to end child labour. 


On the occasion, different individuals and organizations were feted for their support to declare the municipality a child labour-free local level.  


As of now, six other local levels in the country were declared the child labour-free local levels in the country.
