At a press conference organized in the capital on Sunday, Chaudhary Group informed that the amateur tournament would be played over 18 holes under stableford format with ¾ handicap allowance.[break]
"About 100 golfers including men, women, junior and seniors golfers, are expected to participate," said Deepak Acharya, senior golf director at the Gokarna Forest Golf Resort.
Chaudhary Group´s Managing Director Nirvana Chaudhary said CG was happy to support golf. "More than a branding exercise, it is a part of foundation work," said Chaudhary. CG has been organizing three golf events in a calendar year -- LG Open, CG Open and CG President´s Cup. The last event is organized at CG´s own golf course in Nawalparasi.
"We have been supporting sports like cricket, squash and tennis at different levels and we are also supporting golf now," said Chaudhary. "We are organizing amateur tournament now but we could join hands for professional tournaments. What we need is support from golf experts and market study," he added.
There are prizes for the winner, runner-up, ladies´ winner, ladies´ runner-up, senior winner, senior runner-up, best gross, longest drive and closest to the pin in this year´s CG Open.
"It is an open tournament and any amateur golfer can participate. However, we have not sent any invitations to other clubs," said Acharya.
CG Electronics General Manager Ramesh Shrestha claimed that the tournament would grow bigger and help in the development of golf in Nepal.
