CC Chairman Nilamber Acharya has called the next meeting for March 11 as UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal said they needed more time for sorting out thorny issues in constitution writing and peace process. [break]
Nepali Congress parliamentary party leader Ram Chandra Paudel was not present at the meeting.
"Dahal and Nepal said at the outset of the meeting that leaders at the top political level are endeavoring to strike agreement on the key issues related to peace and constitution but the issues have yet to resolved at [inter-party] meetings," said a statement issued by the CC, which is entrusted by the Constituent Assembly (CA) to resolve the disputes and prepare an integrated draft of the new constitution. "We need couple of days more as the result is likely very shortly."
The leaders also proposed at the meeting that the disputes, which are yet to be resolved, be settled at the CC itself instead of forwarding them to the full CA House for a voting.
The key issues that are yet to be resolved at the CC are the system of governance and federal structure, among others.
According to participants, after Dahal and Nepal aired their views at the meeting, only Sunil Prajapati of Nepal Workers and Peasants Party was the one who raised a question. He demanded that the leaders inform about the developments made at the recent meetings.
"I think the time is not ripe to disclose everything. We will do it once the issues develop in a matured way," a leader quoted Dahal as saying.
