KATHMANDU, Dec 27: The Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) was engulfed in darkness for 17 minutes on Sunday evening. The Duty Office of the TIA said the light went off at 5:35 p.m. and came back at 5:52 p.m. causing some disturbances. It is said that there was some "switch defect" that caused the darkness.

However, the electrical section of the TIA denied that there was a 17-minute power cut. Asked to comment, Ram Chandra Aryal of the electrical section said, "There was brief darkness for a few seconds only but everything was normal," adding, "It caused no major disturbances in flight timings."

Officials at the TIA also said that everything was back to normal after the power supply resumed.
