The letter sent to the PHSC states that Nepal has already written a formal letter to Canada seeking approval to set up Nepali embassy there, but the Canadian government is yet to respond. Former chief secretary Bhojraj Ghimire has been proposed Nepali ambassador to Canada. The committee had sought details from the MoFA in this regard after lawmakers stated that the committee should not conduct the hearing.
According to PHSC secretary Dhruba Ghimre, the hearing was postponed as Nepal is yet to obtain approval from Canada to set up an embassy there. The PHSC has decided to hold a hearing on Ghimire only after receiving approval from the Canadian government. "It is a joke that we are yet to receive approval from Canada, which is yet to give approval to Nepal to establish an embassy there," said a lawmaker requesting anonymity. Officials of the constitutional bodies and envoys can be appointed only after parliamentary confirmation.
