KATHMANDU, Aug 21: The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) is preparing to insure the players of the national cricket team against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

CAN Secretary Ashok Nath Pyakurel said they are preparing to include the male cricket players in the national team in the insurance coverage amounting Rs 100,000 against the coronavirus disease.

"We plan to run closed-door training for the national team after assessing the situation. For now, we are insuring the male players against COVID-19," he said. Pyakurel also added that groundsmen, physios and office staff will also be included in the first phase of the insurance plan as they have to be at the frontline.

Female players will be included in the second phase, according to Pyakyrel.

CAN earlier had scheduled to resume the training sessions of the male cricketers on August 17 which was, however, postponed for indefinite time due to COVID-19 fears and prohibitory orders enforced in the Kathmandu Valley.
