The 70-year-old patient from Tilottama Municipality-2, Janakinagar, breathed her last at 10 am earlier today, said Dr Sudarshan Thapa, the focal person at the hospital.

The woman had been staying at home isolation after being diagnosed with this viral infection earlier on August 10. She was, however, admitted to the hospital on August 14 after her health condition further deteriorated. According to Dr Thapa she had been put on a ventilator. “She also had thyroid complications.”

She was also treated through plasma therapy on August 24. Though her health improved a bit after the therapy, her health status started deteriorating since Wednesday evening.

The hospital, which was set up primarily to treat the COVID-19 patients in Province 5, has reported a total of seven deaths in the course of treatment - three each from Rupandehi and Kapilvastu and one from Pyuthan.

According to the hospital administration, 15 patients with serious health conditions are undergoing treatment at the intensive care unit and three others are on ventilator support.
