ARGHAKHANCHI, Nov 27: The death toll in Arghakhanchi bus accident has climbed to 18, district authorities said here. 

Chief District Officer Bijaya Raj Poudel told Republica Online that 18 dead bodies have been recovered so far. Of them, 6 are men, 5 women, 3 children, and four others have yet to be identified, according to him. "Their identities have yet to be ascertained," he informed. 

Poudel further said that 11 injured have been rushed to Butwal for further treatment. 

The incident happened when a passenger bus met with an accident at Sandhikharcha municipality-6 in Arghakhanchi district on Wednesday afternoon.

The ill-fated Butwal-bound bus (Lu 2 Kha 2148) drove off the highway and plunged 400 meters down into the gorge at the local Narapani area. 

The bus had departed for Butwal from Sandhikharka at 1:30 pm. Police are carrying out rescue operations.
