A rally of around 150 including 40 injured in the incident took out a march from the spot of the blast and went round Basantapur Bazaar of Madi before paying tributes at the memorial constructed at the incident site.[break]
The representatives of the UN´s Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) had also taken part in the function organized by the Bandarmudhe Victims Committee. The victims urged the government to initiate action against the Maoists involved in the ´most unpardonable and barbaric incident of the armed insurgency´.
“We urge the government to take action against the guilty and provide employment to the families of the dead and the injured,” Vice-president of the Bandarmudhe Victims Committee Krishna Adhikari demanded.
The Maoists had ambushed the passenger bus targeting 12 army men traveling in the bus.
Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal had immediately issued a statement apologizing for the incident. But his promise of going to Madi and seeking direct apology with the victims and announcing a relief package remains unfulfilled. The Maoists were peeved after the committee constructed the memorial with the help of Nepal Army.
Vice-president Adhikari said that seven-eight persons injured in the incident are still on medicines. He claimed that nobody has done anything substantial for the victims except for then Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal providing Rs 700,000 for the construction of the memorial.
