MORANG, March 19: The police have arrested four protesters who violated the restricted area and demonstrated near the Chief Minister's office, demanding that the province be renamed on the basis of identity.
They were arrested after the United Struggle Committee breached the forbidden area and demonstrated demanding Koshi Province be renamed.
Police fired a dozen tear gas canisters and three rounds of aerial shots to disperse the crowd. On the other hand, another team of protesters is demonstrating in front of the provincial assembly.
The provincial assembly named the province as Koshi on March 1. Since then, various groups have been continuously protesting demanding that the province be renamed based on identity.
Leaders Gopal Kirati, Kumar Lingden, Sanjuhang Palungwa, Prem Ekten and others are scheduled to address the meeting to be held after the demonstration on Sunday.
The District Administration Office, Morang, had issued prohibitory orders at five places in Biratnagar after dissatisfied parties announced a protest against the naming of the province.
