KATHMANDU, July 25: Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun has said it was a matter of pride for Nepal to join the belt and road initiative (RBI) launched by the Chinese President.
"Nepal has joined BRI, and it should provide appropriate benefit to both countries," Vice President Pun said during a meeting with Deputy Governor of Yunnan Province of China at the former residence, Green House, on Thursday. The Vice President reminded that Nepal had moved ahead with the campaign of 'prosperous Nepal, happy Nepali' and foreign investment was imperative for Nepal's development.
"We expect maximum investment from Chinese companies," he reminded, adding that the potential areas for investment in Nepal are a modernization of agriculture, infrastructure development for tourism, excavation of minerals and processing of herbs. On the occasion, the Deputy Governor viewed that China and Yunnan Province were happy to have cooperation with Nepal in various sectors.
He recalled that the Chinese President has stressed that Yunnan could be made a center for the expansion of relations with South Asian and South East Asian countries.
