KATHMANDU, Oct 10: The BP Highway, which had been closed following floods and landslides triggered by continuous rainfall on Saturday and Sunday, reopened on Friday.
Keshav Sharma, Secretary at the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, confirmed that the highway, which had been shut for the past six days, has now resumed operations.

Suman Yogesh, Chief of the Road Division in Bhaktapur, said public vehicles would start running on the highway from Saturday. According to him, efforts to reopen the road had been underway for the past five days.
“We deployed 50 different types of machinery to clear landslides and other blocked sections. Our teams worked round the clock to restore access,” he said. Yogesh added that 16 driveways were created to facilitate the reopening.
Heavy rainfall in October last year had caused severe damage to the BP Highway. Vehicular movement was restored by creating temporary road infrastructure. The rainfall earlier last week washed away these temporary structures at several locations, including Chauki Danda in Kavrepalanchowk, leaving the highway closed again to traffic.
The BP Highway serves as a crucial route for vehicles travelling from Kathmandu to the eastern region of the country. The recent closure caused major difficulties for commuters and disrupted transportation.
