The government is preparing to convert areas vacated after squatter settlement evictions into parks, green belts, expanded river corridors and widened buffer zones.

According to the ministry, 207 local governments have expressed interest in independently operating land revenue and survey services. These include sub-metropolitan cities such as Dharan, Ghorahi and Dhangadhi, which have shown readiness to begin operations.

The settlements were cleared over the weekend in coordination between the federal government and the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC).

The Ministry of Finance on Sunday decided to shift from a monthly salary system to a bi-monthly payment structure for civil servants. The ministry has already written to the Office of the Financial Comptroller General to implement the new system.

The tunnel will begin trial operation from the second week of May, while commercial operation is expected to start from the third week of July.

The surge in complaints comes in the wake of a commitment made by the ruling Rastriya Swatantra Party, which had pledged in its manifesto to “ensure the safety of ordinary citizens’ hard-earned money and return deposits of small savers within 100 days.”
