KATHMANDU, Aug 29: Authorities are continuing to recover and manage bodies swept away by the devastating Bhotekoshi flash flood in Rasuwa, with hundreds of bodies taken to hospitals in several districts.
The flash flood that struck the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa last Wednesday morning caused significant loss of life and property and affected large areas of Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading.
Security agencies are continuing coordinated search, rescue and relief operations. However, collecting and managing the bodies of those killed in the disaster has emerged as a major challenge.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) said bodies recovered from various flood-hit rivers have been taken to different hospitals, with the process still underway.

Of the 579 bodies recovered as of Friday evening, 511 had been sent to various hospitals, according to the Authority.
In Rasuwa, three recovered bodies have been kept at Rasuwa District Hospital in Dhunche. In Dhading, 27 bodies were sent to Pokhara and 10 to Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital. Similarly, 38 bodies recovered in Nuwakot were taken to Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital.
In Chitwan, 171 bodies were kept at Bharatpur District Hospital, four at National City Hospital, two at Bharatpur Community Hospital, two at Narayani Hospital and 41 at the Industrial and Commercial Development Institute.
Of the bodies recovered in Tanahun, nine have been kept at Manipal Hospital Pokhara, five at Provincial Hospital Damauli and 14 at Gandaki Hospital Pokhara.
In Gorkha, 29 bodies are being kept at Province Hospital Gorkha, 11 at Gandaki Hospital Pokhara and four at NPI Hospital Gorkha.
In Nawalparasi East, six bodies are being kept at Madhyabindu Municipal Hospital Chormara, 36 at Gaindakot Municipal Hospital, 22 at Madhyabindu Provincial Hospital Danda, four at District Hospital Palpa, two at Mission Hospital Palpa, two at Lumbini Hospital Palpa and 41 at Gandaki Hospital Pokhara.
In Nawalparasi West, eight bodies are at Prithvi Chandra Hospital Parasi, 11 at Lumbini Provincial Hospital in Butwal, Rupandehi, three at Bhim Hospital in Bhairahawa and six at Pipara Hospital in Kapilvastu, according to the Authority.
The NDRRMA said efforts are continuing to transport other recovered bodies to suitable hospitals and hand them over to their respective families and places.
