Birendra Sainik clinch CoAS cricket

KATHMANDU, May 20: Birendra Sainik School clinched the title of the Third Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) Inter School Running Cricket Tournament on Thursday defeating AVM by eight runs at the Army Ground, Bhaktapur.







Saugat Basnet hammered unbeaten 65 runs for Birendra Sainik who garnered 130 runs losing five wickets in the allotted 20-over match. Opener Basnet hit seven fences facing 56 balls in his innings. Sujan Basnet and Roshan Khatri added 17 runs apiece while Anmol Thapa was the other batsman to contribute double figure (13). [break]



Subash Ram Shrestha claimed two wickets of Birendra Sainik.



Following the run chase, AVM managed 122 runs losing five wickets despite Rojwol Karmacharya smashing unbeaten 41 off 35 and Anupam Karki contributing 37 runs. Bishwajeet Shah (15) and Utsav Koirala (unbeaten 13) were the other players to add double figures.



Shishir Pandey of LRI won the player of the series award while best batsman and bowler awards went to Piyush Gautam of Dreamland Secondary School and Sameer KC of Narayan Academy.







The winners and the runners-up bagged a purse of Rs 15,000 and Rs 7,500 respectively along with trophies, medals and certificates. CoAS Chhatra Man Singh Gurung, Cricket Association Nepal President Binaya Raj Pandey, among others, distributed the prizes.
