BIRATNAGAR, Nov 22: Imports and exports from Biratnagar-Jogbani border point have resumed from Tuesday after customs agents agreed to initiate investigation on the goods confiscated by India´s Seema Surakshya Bal (SSB).

Imports and exports from one of the main Nepal-India transit points had come to a halt from Saturday after Nepali and Indian customs agents launched a protest to condemn the ´excesses´ of the SSB personnel, who had confiscated goods worth Rs 2.75 million belonging to Pashupati Trade Link of Biratnagar on Friday. The cargo, which contained mobile phones worth Rs 2.5 million and tissue papers worth Rs 250,000, was being ferried into Nepal from India.

SSB has claimed that the cargo was confiscated after the importer failed to show proper documents to transport the goods into Nepal.

A meeting of Morang Industries Association, Customs Agents Association of Morang, Indian customs agents and SSB official held on Tuesday has agreed to complete the investigation within seven days to completely settle the matter.
