Bhotekoshi Flood: Search and rescue underway, PMO urges riverside residents to stay alert

The PMO said the private sector was also supporting security agencies in search and rescue operations. KATHMANDU, Aug 27: Following the devastating flood in the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa on Wednesday, the government has intensified search, rescue and relief operations in riverside and affected areas since early Thursday morning.



According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the Nepali Army delivered relief supplies, including food, tents and medicines, to the affected areas on Wednesday night to assist people at risk.

The PMO said the private sector was also supporting security agencies in search and rescue operations. Teams from the Nepali Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force were mobilised soon after the flood struck. Helicopters operated by the army and private companies were also used for rescue operations.


Nepali Army teams continued ground based rescue operations throughout the night. Since Thursday morning, army and private helicopters, along with teams on foot, have been deployed more extensively in Timure, Syabrubesi and riverside areas.


The PMO said efforts to locate missing people have also been stepped up alongside the rescue of those stranded by the flood.


The government has urged riverside residents to remain highly alert. It has also concentrated government agencies in the affected areas to ensure more effective rescue and relief operations.
