"Responding to our formal request, Rawal has recently informed us that he is ready to return the vehicle," admitted Sudhirkumar Shah, spokesperson of the ministry.
Nearly a month ago, the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of parliament had instructed the ministry to immediately retrieve vehicles from former officials concerned, including former home ministers, if they are found still using vehicles which they were given while in office.
Following PAC instruction, the ministry had asked former home ministers -- Ram Chandra Paudel, KP Oli, Khum Bahadur Khadka, Bamdev Gautam, Purna Bahadur Khadka and Rawal to return the vehicles.
"To date, no former home ministers had taken home new government vehicle without the consent of ministry officials," said MoHA source.
Rawal has requested ministry officials to manage another vehicle for him. "We will provide him an ordinary vehicle," the source added.
Among other former home ministers, Paudel, Khum Bahadur Khadka and Gautam have already returned vehicle to the ministry. "We are yet to receive formal response from former home ministers Oli and Purna Bahadur Khadka," the source told Republica.
Meanwhile, the ministry has also requested former officials including former chief secretaries, secretaries and others concerned to immediately send back the personal security officers (PSOs) as per the PAC decision.
