KATHMANDU, May 11: Min Bahadur Gurung, chairman and managing director of Bhatbhateni Super Market, has announced Rs 410 million in assistance for the construction of a children's hospital in the country.

Gurung visited the under-construction hospital at Hepali Height in Kathmandu on Friday afternoon where renowned heart surgeon Dr Bhagwan Koirala briefed Gurung about the ongoing works done by the team under his leadership.

Under the leadership of Dr Koirala, the Kathmandu Institute of Child Health Hospital will be established in seven provinces, including Kathmandu.

Upon hearing Koirala's briefings, Gurung inquired about the financial requirements for the hospital's construction. Following Koirala's briefing of the funds gathered, commitments made, and outstanding needs, Gurung promptly pledged to contribute Rs 410 million to this project.

Recalling the assistance he had previously provided to the TU Teaching Hospital, Gurung revealed, "I am extending this  support without informing anyone, not even my family about it."

Following Gurung's announcement, Dr Koirala became emotional and said, "We embarked on this journey with no financial resources. I cannot describe this moment of immense joy. It's truly a substantial contribution. This will be a game-changer."

"This support has turned our grand vision into reality. This achievement is not just attributed to Bhagwan Koirala or the board; it's a collective effort for the nation. Today, Min Bahadur Gurung has emerged as a role model," stated Koirala, adding, "We take pride in having such a generous individual in Nepal. This brings joy to the hearts of Nepali citizens."

After the announcement of the support, Bhatbhateni’s Chairman Gurung expressed satisfaction in contributing to a noble cause, according to a news report published by 12khari.com, a Nepali-language news portal.

"I find joy in witnessing this commendable initiative," he expressed. "Initially, I was prepared to offer Rs 250 million in support. Witnessing the commendable efforts inspires me to extend my support further. Hence, I decided to contribute Rs 410 million."

This isn't Gurung's first philanthropic endeavor. Gurung has previously funded the construction of two buildings at the TU Teaching Hospital. In 2068 BS, an emergency building was built in honor of Min Bahadur Gurung's parents, Brish Bahadur Gurung, and Dhan Maya Gurung.

The first building was constructed for Rs 110 million. After the earthquake, Gurung funded the construction of another building at the same location, with the Emergency Health Services (EHS) building being built for Rs 150 million.

Gurung has sponsored the education of 14 individuals to pursue MBBS degrees. These individuals hail from various remote districts including Rolpa, Khotang, Mugu, Dolpa, Baitadi, Darchula, Sankhuwasabha, Taplejung, Panchthar, and Kalikot.
