BHAKTAPUR, April 26: Bhaktapur has succeeded in becoming a malaria-free district. The disease can be fatal. Public Health Center Bhaktapur has announced that the district has succeeded in becoming a malaria-free district.

Procurement Officer at the Department of Health Services, Deepak Achhami said that all the four municipalities of Bhaktapur are malaria-free.On the occasion of the World Malaria Day, 2080 BS, addressing a program organized by the office on Tuesday, Achhami said, “Because no malaria patients were found during the tests in Bhaktapur, this district has been declared as being malaria-free.”

The chief of the District Health Center, Krishna Mijar, said that despite being a malaria-free district, he did not stop taking precautions. "It is impossible to tell when the disease will come," he said, "Like who knew that the coronavirus would come in such a terrible way in the last few years?" Therefore, he said, caution should be adopted. Chief Mijar says that from time to time programs such as mosquito net distribution and awareness-raising programs will be conducted for this purpose.

Malaria is a mosquito-borne disease. This disease is mainly caused by the bite of female mosquitoes. Therefore, to avoid this disease, mosquito bites should be avoided. As there are more mosquitoes in summer, special precautions should be taken to avoid bites.

According to the data presented in the program, 67 districts of the country are at the risk of malaria. Among them, Ilam, Jhapa, Morang, Dhanusha, Mahottari, Sindhuli, Banke, Bardia, Chitwan, Sarlahi, Nawalparasi, Kailali and Kanchanpur are at high risk. Bhaktapur, Solukhumbu, Lalitpur, Manang, Mustang, Dolpa, Humla, Kalikot, Mugu and Sindhupalchok are malaria-free districts.

The Government of Nepal has announced plans to make the country malaria-free by 2025. But it was told in the program that it was not possible. It was said in the program that this was not possible due to the open border with India. India has announced that it will become a malaria-free country by 2030.
