BHAKTAPUR, April 25: A total of 11 candidates have registered for the mayoral post in four municipalities of Bhaktapur. According to the District Election Office, Bhaktapur, 11 candidates have registered for the post of mayor in Bhaktapur district on the first day of registration of candidates for the local level election.
On the first day of registration of candidates for the local level election, 11 aspirants in 4 municipalities of the district registered their names in the election office of the concerned municipality. Among those who have registered their names in the election office of Bhaktapur Municipality, three have registered their candidacies for the post of chief and one for the post of deputy chief, while eight have registered their names for the post of ward chairman.

Four for the post of chief, one for deputy chief, one for ward chairperson and two for ward members have registered their names in the election office of Madhyapur Thimi Municipality. Similarly, two for chief, on for deputy chief, and two for ward chairpersons have registered in Changunarayan Municipality and two for chief and two for ward chairpersons in Suryabinayak Municipality have registered their candidacies, said Gopal Prasad Baskota, Chief Election Officer of Bhaktapur. According to him, 34 parties including 6 national parties and 28 other parties are registered in the district election office for the upcoming local elections.
It is estimated that the number of candidates registering on the first day will be less while on the second day it will be crowded. He said that the staff have been mobilized since Monday morning to register the candidates who have complied with the code of conduct. He said that the office is ready to start the registration process ahead of time to prevent the crowd. He stressed on the full implementation of the election code of conduct to hold this year's local elections peacefully at low cost.
