Basnet unanimously elected NCC prez

KATHMANDU, April 8: Suresh Kumar Basnet has been unanimously elected as the new president of Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) on Friday.



The 58th annual general meeting (AGM) of NCC that started on Wednesday also elected the full set of 23-member new executive committee.



Majority of the new office bearers were elected unanimously, while four secretaries were elected through voting.[break]



The new executive committee has Lok Manya Golcha as senior vice president. Gyanendra Ratna Tuladhar and Rajendra Malla have been elected as first vice president and second vice president respectively.



Similarly, Kamalesh Kumar Agrawal has been elected general secretary, while Rajendra Agrawal and Parshu Ram Dahal will serve NCC as the new treasurer and joint treasurer respectively for the next tenure. Nilkantha Chaulagain, Devendra Bhakta Shrestha, Bhim Bahadur Rawal and Santosh Pandey have been elected to the post of secretaries.



Outgoing NCC president, Surendra Bir Malakar, welcomed the new executive team and expressed hope that it will successfully shoulder NCC´s responsibility and address uncertainties prevailing in the business and industrial sector.



“The new team members have joined the office at a very challenging time. Social, political and industrial unrest are now their concerns,” he said, suggesting the new team to be heedful and work hard to deal with these issues. Malakar further suggested the team to work together with the government, civil society and public sector to garner their support.



Basnet after being elected to the top post of NCC expressed commitment for good leadership and better service delivery.



“All the members in my team are experienced and competent. We will jointly use our experience and expertise for the promotion of industry and commerce,” he told Republica.



He also said his team would make all possible efforts to bridge existing gaps seen between the laborers and employers and to enhance industrial productivity. “My team will make sincere efforts towards building confidence of private developers and mobilize investments to fight this problem,” he stated.
