Dinesh lifted 146 kg in the clean and jerk event to break the record of 145 kg set up by Gyan Bahadur Shrestha five years ago. Gyan Bahadur had written down his name in the record books during the selection tournament for the 11th South Asian Games (SAG) in 2010 in Kathmandu. Dinesh lifted 110 kg in snatch for a total weight of 256 kg to strike gold. His club-mate Tahal Singh Bassyal secured silver medal.
This is the fourth national record in the tournament following Tara Devi Pun's three records in the women's section a day ago.
In the 94 kg section of junior men's event, Mohammad Asahik Hussein lifted 72 kg in snatch and 90 kg in clean and jerk for a total of 162 kg to pip Sagar Bhandari of Kanchanpur for the title.
Army's Gagan Singh Oli secured the first position in the 105 kg category of senior men's event, lifting 108 kg in snatch and 135 kg in clean and jerk to finish ahead of Nepal Police Club's Gagan Chand.
Army's lifter dominated another heavyweight event as Pukar Gurung secured gold for the departmental team in the senior men's above 105 kg category. He lifted 105 kg in snatch and 120 kg in clean and jerk for a total of 225 kg.
Former SAG gold medalist Kamal Bahadur Adhikari secured another gold for Tribhuvan Army Club as he finished first in the senior men's 94 kg category. He lifted 110 kg in snatch and 145 kg in clean and jerk for a total of 255 kg.
Likewise, Bhairav Singh Thapa of Army (senior men's 85 kg) and Lucky Thapa of Police (senior men's 77 kg) clinched gold medals in their respective weight categories.
Altogether 54 men and 16 women had participated in the two-day event.
