KATHMANDU, Mar 3: United World Schools (UWS), Nepal, a Nepal based charity, has officially called for applications for its fellowship program on March 2. The fellowship program provides Nepali youths an opportunity to serve as full time teachers to children from poor and marginalized communities in Nepal where quality education is desperately needed.
According to the press statement released by UWS,the program aims to improve the quality of education delivered to the children in rural communities by practicing modern teaching methodology and practical based learning through trained fellows.“Through this experience of teaching in classroom and working with students, parents and community leaders the youths will be exposed to the grass root realities of Nepal’s education system,” it added.
“The two-year-long program will not only provide an excellent starting platform to shape their careers and broaden their connections as a leader but also to initiate a systemic change towards educational equity in Nepal.”
UWS Nepal calls teaching fellowship
Established in 2015 by Country Director Surya Karki, UWS, Nepal has been successful in building 15 earthquake resistant schools, placing 24 community teachers benefiting 1,500 children in Sankhuwasabha and Gulmi districts.
According to Education and fellowship Director, Avinash Jha, the lack of modern teaching methodology has created the need for trained teachers, resulting in the initiation of Nepal Teaching Fellowship Program in April, 2017. With its growing success and placing five exceptional fellows and 24 community teachers, UWS Nepal has decided to launch the fellowship program every year.
Any Nepali citizen with a minimum of bachelor’s degree can apply for the fellowship. The applicants will be invited to go through written tests, series of interviews and interaction process, from which ten new fellows will be selected. The application deadline is March 25 and applicants can visit www.uwsnepal.org for details.
The fellows will receive one-month intensive training on child-centered learning, early years development, outdoor learning, classroom management, and leadership development training by experts in the education sector before they are sent to the rural areas to teach.
The pre departure training will last for a month where the fellows will develop excellent communication and leadership skills whereas, the in-service training will last throughout the fellowship period to tackle the problems encountered during their stay, according to the press statement.
The training will be conducted in partnership with various organizations that may include but are not limited to, Ullens School, Rato Bangla School, Unilever and many more. The fellows will be trained by national and international professional trainers from various backgrounds.
