Speaking at a press meet on Tuesday after arriving in the capital, Apa said, “I experience increased pleasure every time I reach Everest peak.”

Expressing satisfaction and importance of climate change campaign that he undertook along with fellow two-time Everest summiteer Dawa Tsering Sherpa last year, Apa said, “Since Nepal is a victim of climate change, the developed countries must help us to fight its impact. And in this sense the fight against the impact of climate change is on.”

Apa informed that this time he experienced “fierce weather” conditions especially after Camp 4. “I could not see the glacier water this time due to extreme cold.”

Dawa, who was coordinating the Eco-Himalayan Expedition, informed that melting of ice is real as more rocks are now visible and weather change is affecting the flora and fauna. He said, “Take for instance, Lophophorus Pheasant (Danphe). We could hardly see even one bird of this species this time.”

Dawa added that due to melting of snow, it was easier to collect garbage this time. The expedition even recovered huge parts of a helicopter that crashed in the Everest region a decade ago.

It was announced at the press meet that the Expedition has collected 4,770 kg of garbage from the Everest region.

Meanwhile, the annual “Beat the GLOF Action Run and Save the Himalaya-Khumbu Festival” will be organized on June 4 with the aim of raising greater international and local concern on the risks posed by Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GOLF) in the Khumbu region.

The Action Run will start at Khumjung following the route to Kyangjuma-Namche-Phurte-Thamo, and from Phurte-Syangboche-Khunde ending at Khumjung.
