KATHMANDU, April 15: After Dipak Rauniyar’s debut film “Chaukath” (Threshold) made Nepal’s debut in the Cannes Film Festival this year, another Nepali director Binod Paudel has made a splash with a 29- minute film titled “Awaken Eyes".

This is Nepal’s second entry at Cannes. That’s two entries in the same year.[break]

“Awaken Eyes” is a story about a poor newlywed couple who have a hard time consummating their marriage, as they share a room with the groom’s sick mother. Unable to resist temptation, they finally make love, dismissing the mother´s presence.

“Awaken Eyes” will now be screened alongside “Chaukath” during the 12-day Cannes Film Festival, in the non-competitive category in the short-film section.

Nepal made a mark in the international film arena with “Caravan.” That famous film, which received an Oscar nomination in the Best Foreign Film category, was made in the late 1990s in mountainous north Nepal by European Eric Valli.
