Anniversary of martyr Shastri marked

KATHMANDU, Jun 24: Kathmandu Metropolis organized a function to mark the 119th anniversary of Martyr Shukraraj Shastri at the first day of the martyr´s day, in the capital, on Tuesday.



Tributes were paid to martyr Shastri, who was hanged to death by the then Rana rulers on Magh 10, 1997 BS for spearheading anti-Rana regime activities.[break]



Social workers, intellectuals, and local residents participated in the program organized at Pachali of Teku where the then Rana regime killed Shastri.



On the occasion, participants hailed contributions made by martyrs.



Speaking at the program, Chairman of Martyr Week Main Organizing Committee-2068, and Executive Officer of the Metropolis Kedar Bahadur Adhikari said Shastri had important contribution for the transformation of the society and democracy.



Similarly, Martyr Shastri was remembered organizing a program,  in Pulchowk of Lalitpur as well.



The participants of the program garlanded the statue of martyr Shastri and discussed over his contribution for the democracy.



The participants of the program said the state could not pay enough respect to the martyrs and stressed that the future generation has to follow Shastri´s and other great martyrs´ spirit for the contribution of the country.



Lawmaker Buddha Sayami, journalist Prem Kaidi, Dr. Mina Acharya among other said the stakeholders should pay necessary attention to respect martyr´s deed.
