Organizing a press meet in the capital, sports activists from eight districts of the regions announced formation of a struggle committee to fight against the ANFA. They vowed to fight unless they were given affiliation. [break]
The struggle was formed under the leadership of Nanda Bam. Bajhang, Bajura, Darchula, Doti, Accham,Dadeldhura, Baitadi and Kalikot football associations were refused affiliation by ANFA, the struggle committee claimed.
Korfball championship in November
KATHMANDU, Aug 10: Nepal Korfball Federation (NKF) organized its first formal program after getting affiliation from the National Sports Council, the supreme sports body of the nation, on June 8.
The federation also announced to organize first national korfball championship from November 8-13. The event will be participated by at least 13 teams.
Korfball, a totally new game in Nepal is a team game, somewhat similar to basketball. The game is played between two teams consisting of eight players each with four men and women players in each team. The game is played in 40m X 20m court for 60 minutes with a ball, which is smaller and lighter than a basketball. A team needs to throw a ball into the korf (ring) hung on a 11.5 m tall pole. Unlike basketball, there isn´t any wooden block behind the korf (ring). Body contact is considered foul in this game and opposite sex cannot defend each other. A man player can only defend another man player.
Korfball, the national game of the Netherlands, is played around 60 countries and has its own tournaments like world cup (in every four years), European Championship, Asian Championship and others. It entered Nepal in 2007 and in the same year a Korfball Club was registered, which now has been converted into the Korfball Federation and recognized by the NSC as its 79th member association.
Organizing a press meet in the capital on Friday, president of the newly formed federation Laxman Ghimire said the game was suitable in Nepal´s geography. He also unveiled several plans and programs for the development of the game.
In the 15-member ad hoc committee headed by Ghimire, Ram Kumar Shrestha is the vice president while Pasupati Prasad Bhandari, Anand Kumar Shrestha and Ghanashyam Kadel are the general secretary, secretary and treasurer, respectively.
Meanwhile, chief guest of the program and the advisor to the committee Thakur Gaire unveiled the website of the association -- www.korfballnepal.org.
Bodybuilding team to leave for Thailand
KATHMANDU, Aug 10: A six-member Nepal bodybuilding team is leaving for Pattaya, Thailand, on Tuesday to take part in the 11th Asian Bodybuilding Tournament to be held there from August 11-17.
Gyan Narayan Maharjan and Dayaram Diwakar will represent Nepal in the 50 kg and 55 kg weight categories, respectively. In April, they had earned a bronze medal each in the Sixth South Asian Bodybuilding Tournament held in Benaras, India.
Team leader President of Nepal Bodybuilding and Fitness Association Rajeshbabu Shrestha, vice president and manager Bijaylal Kayastha, coach Gyanendra Nakarmi and referee Dinesh Shrestha will accompany the players.
Meanwhile, vice president of the association Narayan Pradhan and general secretary Dinesh Kumar Bhandari bade farewell to the team amid a function in the capital on Monday.
