KATHMANDU, Aug 8: The alleged gunman shot dead by Nepal police at Kusunti of Lalitpur on Monday afternoon was a drug dealer, Metropolitan Crime Division has claimed. Prabin Khatri was killed in an ‘encounter’ outside his house during drug raid, the division said.
Metropolitan Crime Division spokesperson Prakash Jung Karki said that Khatri, who had sustained severe head injuries, breathed his last while he was being rushed to Patan Hospital for treatment.

He said it was still unclear whether Khatri died of police bullets or his own fire. The deceased was pointing his gun at his right temple at the time when he was shot, according to Karki.
“We are still ascertaining whether he shot himself or died of police bullet,” said Karki. Khatri’s body has been taken for post mortem report.
Two hand guns allegedly belonging to Khatri were recovered from the shooting scene. Police have maintained that Khatri was killed after he tried to shoot at cops.
Police had raided his house acting on a tip-off from local drug users. A neighbor told Republica that Khatri had long been struggling with drugs and used to occasionally peddle drugs.
