The study of a committee formed by the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal ( CAAN) says only small and medium sized aircraft in internal flights can be landed and not large airplanes, in Budhichaur of near Dhulikhel. [break]
Study Committee Convener and CAAN Deputy DG Suman Kumar Shrestha said Budhichaur is inappropriate for internal airport.
CAAN had searched for new place as an alternate as Tribhuwan International Airport (TIA) had maximum pressure for internal airport. The CAAN said only a small capacity airport can be built there than necessary.
It can only sustain 20 percent of internal flights of TIA, Shrestha told RSS.
The place was studied after Anpghari of Panchkhal, Nagidanda and Rayamajhi Gaun of Banepa were seen inappropriate.
This study has shown that government plan to build an internal airport near capital will be a failure.
The place will have only 1,154 metre long runway which can only sustain helicopters, twin otter and Dornier aircrafts.
ATR and beach craft cannot land here as they need 1,800 metres long runway.
Buddha and Yeti airlines´ ATR and beach crafts are regarded as large aircrafts. They have been flying to Biratnagar, Bhadrapur and Nepalgunj.
The committee report says 80 household can be displaced there and a hill should be cut.
As all aircrafts cannot land and cost will be high, it was not found feasible.
