Shrestha was elected as president of NBA through a controversy-marred third general assembly in the capital on February 18, during which it was declared that he was elected by majority of the voters after another faction of the NBA walked out of the election process. [break]
The other faction was led by Rabiraj Thapa, the president of the previous committee and candidate for the top position in the current general assembly.
According to a reliable source, AIBA sent an email to Thapa and Shrestha as well as other concerned sports authorities in Nepal on Monday informing that it has already recognized Shrestha as NBA president.
"AIBA has already recognized the election that took place on February 18, 2012, and acknowledged the fact that Mr Rajiv Shrestha is the new president of the Nepal Boxing Association," the source quoted the email sent by Patricia Steulet, director of external relations at the AIBA.
Shrestha confirmed that he had received the email but denied to comment more on it.
The source claimed that the AIBA sent the email in response to an email from Thapa to AIBA President Chink-Kuo Wu on March 21.
However, Thapa claimed that he had informed AIBA only about the general assembly and circumstances that led to its postponement.
"I had sent the report about general assembly to AIBA but had not asked anything about reorganization. Shrestha or Nepal Olympic Committee could have asked for it or lobbied for it," said Thapa.
Thapa also said that National Sports Council and Ministry of Sports should respond to all these things if these organizations want to develop the game of boxing.
