About 20,000 observers to be deployed to monitor upcoming elections

KATHMANDU, Oct 3: Around 20,000 local and foreign observers are going to be deployed for the upcoming House of Representatives and provincial assemblies elections to be held on November 20.

KATHMANDU, Oct 3: Around 20,000 local and foreign observers are going to be deployed for the upcoming House of Representatives and provincial assemblies elections to be held on November 20.


Kamal Bhattarai, co-spokesperson for the Election Commission (EC) said that considering the figures submitted by 43 domestic organizations and received approval according to the commission's call for supervision, there will be around 20,000 observers monitoring the elections. As far as international observers are considered, two organizations have received permission for supervision so far.

According to him, some organizations are working to supervise observers not only in urban and convenient areas but also in remote polling stations. The commission has requested the chief election commissioners of India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, the Maldives, Pakistan and Sri Lanka and the heads of foreign diplomatic missions in Nepal to observe the polling day.
