A resident of Biratnagar-12, Miya, who is close to Nepali Congress (NC) leaders, was arrested on the charge of holding Khaman Singh Bohara -- also from Biratnagar-12 -- hostage for six hours.[break]
According to Morang police, NC, UML, Maoist and Tarai Madhes Democratic Party (TMDP) had exerted pressure on the police to release Miya before being produced in the court.
Miya´s supporters had picketed District Police Office (DPO), Morang till late Tuesday evening.
Miya had allegedly threatened Bohara to either return the land that the latter bought from one Deepa Thapa or pay Rs one million. Miya had held Bohara hostage for hours on August 13 after Bohara refused to give in.
Police had arrested Miya after Bohara lodged a complaint against him.
“I was under intense pressure,” Morang police chief SP Pradhumnya Karki told Republica. “But, I am not the one to give in to such pressure.”
