A Tihar that stands out

KATHMANDU, Oct 26: Lights have been strung out all over the city and households are preparing for the days of celebrations.

An annual event, it’s easy to fall into routine and for one Tihar to blend into the next. This year, the Gennext team has compiled a few ideas for you to make sure that this Tihar stands out![break]

Celebrate yourself

Although Ma Puja is traditionally practiced by Newar families, there is no reason you can’t treat yourself this Tihar! Here are a few ways in which you can pamper yourself, because let’s be honest, having days set apart for dogs, crows, and your siblings is nice but you need a day to celebrate yourself too!

New hair do

If you’re getting tired of your old look, an easy way to spice up your style is to get a new hairdo. It’s incredible how changing the length or style can alter the way you look and feel. The best part of a new hair cut – it’s not as complicated as trying to put together trendy outfits!

If you like the length but don’t want to let scissors have their way, you can always go for a different hair color. Try various shades of brown, jet black, or even with colorful streaks! Or, you could try adding curls to straight hair and vice versa. So many options for new hair, find the one that’s right for you!

Indulge yourself in favorite foods

If you find yourself counting calories and practicing self restrain over what you eat, indulge a little! Food is one of the greatest pleasures in life and whether you have a sweet tooth or a liking for the hot and spicy, give into the item that makes your taste buds go mmmmmm.

Save up for your dream vacation

We all have some place else we’d like to be and chances are, it’s going to cost to get there. So this year, instead of buying on another pair of shoes you don’t really need, cut down on the chicken chilly or plates of momos and start saving for that holiday! Whether you’re saving Rs 100 a week, or Rs 1000 a month, get a piggy bank, start a new bank account or give your money to a person you trust to hold onto it for you. Though it’ll take self control, having the ticket in your hand will be worth it!

The spa treatment

All the days at work and school can be stressful, what better way to relax than to go to the spa? There are a wide range of options for full body massages, saunas, and stream rooms. If you’re looking for something that fits into a small budget, you could also opt for a head massage or a foot massage which are oh so nice.

Hang out with your friends!

For a lot of us, the most fun we can have is when we’re with friends. With days off from school and work this is the perfect time to have that reunion that you’ve been putting off all year. Or, if you prefer to hang out with your select favorites, a sleep over is always a great option. There’s no such thing as being too old for some fun – have a pajama party, pull an all-nighter, watch movies back to back, play board games, or just spend hours chatting with friends.
