Karma Wangyal is a 17-year-old currently training to become a Lama. He has been living in a monastery at Namobuddha for six years now.

Originally from Dhinga village of Humla, Karma wanted to become a monk since an early age as his brothers were also Lamas. He takes regular classes as well as monk training at the monastery where he has now passed Grade V.

After getting admitted at the monastery, he seldom visits his family or hometown. “I like it here at the monastery. Back home, life was difficult due to lack of facilities and basic development,” he says. Karma says he enjoys holidays during festivals like Lhosar as he gets the time to visit different places around Kathmandu.

He enjoys playing ping pong with his friends in his free time and says he has 114 friends at the monastery from his batch.
