Preparation on to celebrate Buddha Jayanti in grand manner

KATHMANDU, April 30: Preparations are underway to celebrate the 2563rd Buddha Jayanti and Lumbini Day. Buddha Jayanti is celebrated to observe the birth of Lord Buddha on full moon day in Baishakh every year.

KATHMANDU, April 30: Preparations are underway to celebrate the 2563rd Buddha Jayanti and Lumbini Day. Buddha Jayanti is celebrated to observe the birth of Lord Buddha on full moon day in Baishakh every year.


The Lumbini Development Trust has started preparation to celebrate Buddha Jayanti in a grand manner by forming different committees. Buddha Jayanti falls on May 18 this year.

A 563-member main celebration committee has been formed under coordination of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli for the preparation of Buddha Jayanti. Prize and honour committee has been formed under coordination of vice-chair of LDT, Bhikkhu Metteyya, Publicity sub-committee under coordination of acting Member-Secretary, Saroj Bhattarai.


Similarly, Worship Paritran sub-committee; monastery sub-committee; Visit Lumbini Year Coordination sub-committee; the Devdaha, Ramgram, Kapilvastu sub-committee; security, scholarship, sports, stage management, transport, food and Prasad, peace rally management, cleanliness, sapling plantation and health management sub-committees have also been formed.


Vice-Chair of LDT, Metteyya, said that preparation was underway to celebrate this year's Buddha Jayanti focusing domestic tourism. He said this year's Buddha Jayanti would be special as the State-5 government has announced Visit Lumbini Year.


Gautam Buddha was born on Baishakh shukla purnima in 623 BS.
