8 killed in Jumla house collapse

JUMLA, March 14: Eight people were killed and four others injured when a house was hit by a rain-triggered landslide at Mophal, Wadki VDC-4 here in the district on Wednesday night.



The house of one Devi Lal Sarki was hit by a landslide. According to police, the deceased have been identified as the wife of the house owner, Nunnu Sarki, 30, two of their sons Hari Bhakta,12, and Jagadish Sarki, 5, and two daughters, Laljira, 9, and Sushila, 6. [break]



Similarly, other deceased have been identified as their neighborers Sagara Sarki, Hari Dautta, 18, and Tanka, 18, of Tatopani VDC-9.



The house owner, Devi Lal, 42 and  his five –year-old son Kamal Karki,  and others including Bhanu Sarki, 20, and Shiva Dutta Sarki, 18, of  Tatopani VDC were severely injured in the incident. The injured are being taken to Karnali Health Science Academy for treatment.



Four others, however, escaped unhurt in the incident as they managed to flee just in time. According to the district police office, they are collecting the bodies, which were trapped inside the debris.
