KATHMANDU, June 26: Adopted from a short story by George Orwell with the same name, the movie 'Shooting an Elephant,' starring Barry Sloane, David Kaye, Anup Baral and Shilpa Maskey was shot entirely in Sauraha, Nepal although Orwell's story dictates the incident to have happened in Burma.

The 13-minute long movie begins with a mature Eric Blair, the protagonist, looking back to his younger self with rue. While stationed at the British Foreign Service in Burma, he was made to execute a rogue elephant. Goaded on by the Burmese and rebuked by his superiors, Blair ends up killing the elephant to avoid humiliation.

Directed by Juan Pablo Rothie, the movie was intended to be shot in Burma, but due to the political instability in the country, the movie found its way to Nepal.

According to the film's production manager Arun Regmi, "The shoot began sometime in May last year. Altogether it took us about 10 days to locate the area and finish the entire film but the shoot alone took just six days."

Actor/director Anup Baral who plays the role of a doctor sub inspector in the movie, says his experience of working with the international crew was impressive.

"The crew arrived fully prepared, and knew exactly what they needed to do. There were enough rehearsal sessions and everybody was punctual. It was a giddy moment for me to share the frame with Barry Sloane who is a great actor," he told Republica.

He further added, "The camera, unlike we had expected, was a normal HD camera, but they were so great with cinematography that the vista came out brilliantly. I'm very excited for the movie."

The teaser of 'Shooting an Elephant' was recently launched, but the release date hasn't been confirmed yet.
