CHITWAN, Aug 30: A male rhino has died in the Chitwan National Park. It was found dead in the Rapti buffer zone community forest in Meghauli area under the park.

CNP chief conservation officer Bed Kumar Dhakal said a rhino of around 35-40 years of age was found lifeless on August 29. It was estimated to be a natural death due to ageing.

On average, the life expectancy of rhino is between 35 and 40 years. In the last fiscal year, four rhinos died due to ageing.

However, the park reported no case of rhino-poaching for some time. Last fiscal year, the Park and national forests areas lost 43 rhinos due to age issue.
