71 percent of COVID-19 patients recover in Taplejung

TAPLEJUNG, July 6: As many as 71 percent of the infected patients in Taplejung district have recovered from the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

According to Bijay Gothale Gautam, COVID-19 contact person for the district administration office, said, out of 1,443 infected people in the district 1,021 have recovered from the deadly viral disease with 29 percent of the total patients still undergoing treatment. There are currently 417 active cases of COVID-19 in the district. 

There are currently two patients in institutional quarantine, 13 in the isolation ward at the district hospital and one infected patient in the institutional isolation center in Sirijunga Rural Municipality, Gautam said. In addition, two infected patients have been referred to the other districts for further treatment. So far, 14 people have succumbed to COVID-19 in the district, Gautam informed Republica. 

The District Public Health Office of Taplejung has also kept records of the district’s residents who died of COVID-19 while undergoing treatment outside the district. According to the health office, 20 people have died following the spread of the second wave of the COVID-19 variant. 

According to the District Administration Office, a total of 3,680  samples were tested through the antigen test method in the district following the spread of the second wave of COVID-19, out of which 874 tested positive for the disease. Also, among the 5,917 samples tested through the PCR method, 569 tested positive for COVID-19.
