CIAA files case against five NTC officials

KATHMANDU, Aug 12: The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Monday arrested five engineers from Nepal Telecom, and an Indian national, and filed a corruption case at Special Court, Kathmandu. They were accused of corruption on the purchase of air condition machines.



According to the information provided by CIAA Spokesperson Shreedhar Sapkota, the engineers bought non-standard air condition machines. The machines were bought from other companies than the approved ones.[break]



The arrested engineers are Rajendra Maharjan, Anil Kumar Acharya, Ramnaresh Singh Kunwar, Shree Krishna Bhujel, Bhai Krishna Maharjan and general manager of an Indian company, Pankaj Kumar Banthiya.



Spokesperson further said while buying the air condition machines, they embezzled Rs 51 million.



The CIAA took the action after a complaint on the purchase of sub-standard AC machines.
