KATHMANDU, Dec 31: Gen-Z activist Rakshya Bam has said that political parties have turned the proportional representation (PR) system into a marketplace for selling parliamentary positions.
Her remarks came after the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) made a PR list public on Tuesday. Taking to social media, Bam said that the system, which the constitution envisioned to ensure inclusion, is increasingly being misused.
Revised interest rate corridor system introduced
Although the PR system was introduced to ensure parliamentary representation for long-marginalized communities, regions, and voices, recent political developments have reduced it to a tool for nepotism and favoritism, she said.
Bam said the state’s long-standing neglect of Sudurpaschim has continued, with political parties also failing the region.
In a social media post, she wrote, “My Sudur is still Sudur,” saying that the center continues to ignore the region’s communities and geography. She added that since Sudurpaschim is an integral part of the country’s map, the state and political parties cannot continue to neglect it indefinitely.
