According to Police, Dinesh Dhwaj Basnet, 44 of Tikhedewal, Lalitpur along with his family members Padma Basnet, 40, Dikshya Basnet, 13, and Diha Basnet, 22, died in the accident. Likewise, Shristi Baral, 24, and Sunita Shrestha, 52, both from Tikhedewal, also died on the spot. After the accident, jeep driver Saroj Ghale, 22, along with Sushila Baral, 50, and Ambika Gajurel, 43, sustained injuries. As informed by the police, the injured were taken to Bhingri Primary Health Post for treatment but later they were sent to Butwal for further treatment. The death toll later reached seven after Sushila Baral succumbed to her injuries in the course of treatment.

As per the preliminary investigations, the sun's glare blocked the driver's vision and this led to the accident. According to police officers, driver's negligence has been found to be yet another reason as the vehicle was moving along the edge of the road for a long time. Though, more details have yet to be revealed as the driver is injured and has difficulty in speaking.

Yadunath Paudel, the chief district officer of Pyuthan, said preparations are underway to hand over the dead bodies to the family members. Currently, the bodies have been kept at Bhingru Primary Health Post and they will be flown to Lalitpur by helicopter.
