Speaking at a press meet organized by Nepal Press Union (NPU), Koirala said Nepal was moving toward becoming a failed state due to the Maoists´ intention to impose “totalitarianism” and seize state powers.[break]
Koirala argued that since all the constitutional bodies were falling vacant one after another it would take no time for the country to turn into a “failed state” if there was further delay in consensus among the political parties. He added that the press and judiciary should stop the country from becoming a failed state as the police administration has already turned “useless” while the activities of the army are power-centric.
Claiming that the murder of Supreme Court Justice Rana Bahadur Bam was also carried out by the Maoists, Koirala said the current Baburam Bhattarai-led government is the most corrupt government ever. He said the government is promoting impunity by halting prosecution even as the accused have admitted to their crimes express readiness to face punishment.
Koirala also criticized the Maoist leaders for threatening to tear away all past accords if they were “cornered”. While adding that it is ridiculous to see the ruling parties organizing street protests, Koirala said the ongoing protests of opposition parties is aimed at ousting Baburam Bhattarai-led government and forming a new government under NC to hold fresh Constituent Assembly election at the earliest.
Koirala said there is no possibility of reverting to monarchy and unitary state. While adding that NC would not revert from previous agreements, he said NC is in favor of holding fresh Constituent Assembly election.
On a separate context, Koirala also claimed that UCPN (Maoist) and the newly-formed CPN-Maoist will be united again after Baburam Bhattarai-led government collapses.
