5 students, 4 invigilators expelled in Udayapur and Sunsari

UDAYAPUR / ITAHARI, April 1: The second day of SLC exams witnessed a few incidents of misconduct and violation of rule in some districts. Apart from those few exceptions, the exams were conducted smoothly across the nation.

Though the exams had remained largely peaceful in Udayapur district on the first day, a few undesirable incidents were record on the second day. Five students were expelled for cheating in the exam centers located at Triyuga Municipality-1 and Gaighat, the district headquarters, according to the Area Police Office.A monitoring team led by the District Education Officer (DEO) Dilip Thakur expelled the students after they were found to be cheating openly. The Examination Coordination Committee informed that they are holding discussions whether the students should be allowed to take the remaining exams or not.

"The exams were conducted smoothly in many areas of the district including Katari, Beltar, Bashasa, Rishku, and many areas in the hills," said Lekhnath Luitel, chief of the exams section at the District Education Office.

A total of 10,418 students wrote their exams from 35 exam centers of the district, out of which 6,139 examinees are under regular category, 4,166 in exempted and 113 under technical category.

Likewise, four invigilators were detained in Sunsari district for helping students cheat in the exams. According to the District Education Office, two invigilators - one deputed at Rajaji High School and the other at Saraswati High School of the district headquarters Inaruwa - were detained.

"As they failed to uphold the exams policy, they have been replaced by new invigilators," said Assistant DEO Pitambar Gautam.

Unlike in the previous years, parents and guardians were not seen outside the exam centers attempting to help their wards. However, attempts to bribe invigilators to help students have not stopped yet. The examinations monitoring committee said they have tightened their monitoring in exam centers in order to prevent such incidents.
