Youth's take on re-elections!

KATHMANDU, Aug 8: On May 28, 2012, the Constituent Assembly (CA) was dissolved without completing its mandate of furnishing the people with the much awaited new Constitution of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal. The government announced the re-election of the CA for November 22 later this year the very same night of dissolution but not all political parties are up for another round of election.

Amidst the blame game, after the CA dissolved, as to why the Constitution was not drafted on time even after so many extensions, the youth are now talking about the polls, yet again. What do they think about?[break]

When asked what he thinks about re-elections and the outcome of it, Pujan Rijal, says, “Our dreams will eventually be shattered. Even if the leaders start working for the elections, I’m sure that they’ll end up with a zilch. Due to their repeated failures to reach an agreement and promulgate a new Constitution, I personally don’t have any hope in this regard.”

On the other hand, Ashish Paudel opines, “There’s no other better option than going for a fresh elections. Let’s see what people think now. Maybe they will elect eligible candidates this time who can give the best Constitution and a prosperous future to all of us.”

While Paudel remains optimistic, most of the youth who answered on our Facebook page didn’t seem enthusiastic about re-elections. It’s only human nature when there’s no improvement at all, people will get tired of hearing the same thing over and over again; and in Nepal, that would be the empty promises of the leaders.

Praveen Bhusal says, “All I can say is that we’ll get to hear the rehearsed fallacious promises from out leaders once again. And I think they found a way to squander our money.”

“The jumbo body of the CA appeared to be a tool for political parties instead of being there representing the people. Time and again, the political parties failed to forge consensus on issues and so the CA had to be dissolved. I think the problem will remain even with the re-elections,” shares Birat Anupam.

Bibek Pants also puts forward his thoughts and says that Constitution is possible by the political will of 15 to 20 leaders and that there’s no need to spend such a huge amount of money which won’t yield any tangible result.
